My name is LaMonde Charles aka Dj Spice and this is my biography.
I was born on the 14th of July 1980 in the spiceisle Grenada. I was introduced to music at a very early age by my father. Sometimes I tend to think that there is beats and musical vibe just flowing through my veins. At since around age 5 I can remember my father religously putting the record player in the verandah to get the music going while the sunday work was being done. At since that tender age i found an interest in the classic oldies. George nooks and Gregory Isaac just to name a few. As I grew older I got into music from my time. I found that it was easy for me to appreciate any type of music as I was exposed to such a wide variety from a very young age. In my early teens I found myself fascinated by Dj's. Found myself listening to alot of stonelove mix tapes and really liking what I was hearing. I would also catch myself on Fridays and Saturdays infront of the radio with my headphones in my ear listening hours on end to the local dj's doing their stuff and I can remember thinking to myself I really think I am capable of doing this. In my late teens/late 90s I decided to see how I can give it A try. I got a couple of lessons from a friend that dj'd and it just took of from there. I started with records and move to virtual technology. I started of playing at house parties and small roadside parties. I did that for about 3 years between 2000-2003. I went to Cuba to study in 2003 thinking that that would be a pause in my dj career but I was so wrong. I went to Cuba only to discover that caribbean party vibe was even crazier than where i came from and that the demand for great caribbean dj's were very high. I thought to myself that this was my calling. I started dj'ing at a couple of the small school parties and made it my goal to be the number 1 foriegn dj in Cuba. It took me almost 3 yrs to do it but eventually I got there, winning 4 dj titles. One title for best soca dj, another for best crowd response and two overall dj competitions just for juggling music. This was done infront of crowds of over 500 people. I came back home in 2007 and decided to give it a rest a bit seeing that my job is very demanding and usually has me tired. That only lasted a short while. I got connected to a Dominican guy with an internet radio station called www.islandriddimz.com, who I became very close friends with and i've been dj'ing there on a weekly basis from then up till now. In grenada I right now I only do house parties and the radio. That is by choice and not by circumstance. I am a very versitile Dj and I play for my listeners and not myself. My goal is always to please my fans in anyway possible through music. I've never had a bad response from my listeners and don't plan to either. Music is in my veins and it will be there till my last breath.
We sure enjoyed your music and entertainment at Lunas in Shanghai. As you can see we are avid night club folks and again really enjoyed your spirit and variety of songs. Please keep me advised of where you and the band are and we will make a point to visit that establishment on the weekends.
Good luck and thanks again for the exciting and entertaining evenings in Shanghai.
