If you love
the reggae music of, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis
Brown, Freddie McGregor and Everton Blender¡the
Inspiration Reggae Band has got what you
need. Inspired and guided by the original
Jamaican classic roots reggae masters of
the 70¡¯s, the Inspiration Reggae Band captures
the feeling, flow and grassroots vibrations
of the golden era in reggae.
Inspiration stepped to the frontline of
the Washington, DC reggae scene in the summer
of 2007. In a short period of time, they
have moved straight to the top of the list
of local reggae ambassadors.
It all started when band leader, Ekow Quaye,
called together a group of musicians who
he has worked with over the years to form
the Inspiration Reggae Band. Ekow is a talented
and well-know bassist from Ghana, who has
been a central player in the local Caribbean
and African music community for over a decade.
Joining Ekow in the Inspiration line-up
is, fellow Ghanaian, Paapa Nyarko on drums
and Frank Javois, from St. Martin, West
Indies on keyboards. Each musician brings
a high level of talent and years of experience
to the Inspiration collective. The result
is a smooth, seasoned, mellow sound that
makes you feel like the band is straight
out of Kingston
Capturing the sweet vocal styles and passion
of reggae¡¯s legendary roots singers, Jamaican
born, Tony Roi, handles the lead vocals
for Inspiration like a champion. His energetic,
unfiltered delivery and bubblin¡¯ stage performance
is classic reggae at its best and a joy
to witness and experience. There is no sitting
down when Tony Roi is on the microphone.
Tony¡¯s authentic and genuine ¡°yard style¡±
delivery is strictly roots and culture.
Establishing their place on the reggae
map, Inspiration has performed at the Juste
Lounge in Bethesda, the Bukom Cafe in Adams-Morgan
and every Sunday JoJo¡¯s on U Street. Inspiration
was also featured on the 2008 Bob Marley
Tribute, ¡°Catch a Fire¡± at Zanzibar on the
Waterfront. Inspiration will also appear
on the Washington Post¡¯s Reggae Night at
the Carter Barron. Expect an Inspiration
Band CD very soon.
